Egrorian though seems to have let his emotions run riot. Perhaps away from the treatments, he became unstable? Yes, that is how I am looking at it. That whatever they were trying to do to people like Egrorian etc., because of their strong wills, it didn't work as they wanted and so they tried to escape and/or they became very unstable.
